EMS ISD Gymnasts Bring Home State Titles and Top Finishes

Athletes from all four high schools deliver standout performances at the state meet in Odessa

Nearly 50 student-athletes from Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD competed at the Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association State Meet in Odessa on April 24–25, with multiple athletes earning state titles and teams delivering standout performances across the board.

Eagle Mountain High School

Eagle Mountain High School’s Evan Janik captured a state championship on vault, earning a perfect score to secure the title. Janik competed in all six events and in the all-around, showcasing consistency and strength throughout the competition.

Teammate Addison Fleet also competed in the all-around, achieving personal records on floor and vault. She placed 12th in the state on vault and finished the season ranked among the top 25 gymnasts in Texas.

“Evan has been a leader every single day in the gym, attending both morning and afternoon practices, training with purpose and always keeping his academics first,” said coach Raquel Dorsey. “Both of our state qualifiers have truly established what it means to be a Knight gymnast and have sparked a fire within our entire program.”

Boswell High School

Boswell High School’s Mckinley Camacho earned a state title, finishing first on balance beam while placing second in the all-around. She also placed third on vault and 10th on bars.

The Boswell girls team placed seventh overall, narrowly missing sixth place by just half a point after improving their standing on the second day of competition.

“I am extremely proud of the performance of our team at state,” said coach Candice Vincent. “After day one, we were in eighth place and fought our way to seventh, missing sixth by just half a point. They should be proud of their performance.”

Nevaeh Santiago added an eighth-place finish on beam. Camacho, Santiago, Emmalee Harris and Ruby Kaczor were selected for Team Texas and will compete at the Senior National Showcase in Florida this summer.

On the boys side, Boswell’s Moises Hernandez concluded his high school career as a four-time state qualifier, placing 27th on vault and narrowly missing a top-10 finish.

Saginaw High School

Saginaw High School’s boys team earned a third-place finish at the state meet after entering day two in second place. The team also captured district and regional titles earlier in the season.

The Rough Riders were led by multiple top-10 individual performances, including Lucas Guhl, who placed second on parallel bars and fourth in the all-around, and Adam Stack, who finished fifth in the all-around.

“This team had true grit this year,” said coach Eric Briley. “We had a young group that performed above expectations and overcame challenges with strong leadership. Finishing with district and regional titles and placing third in the state made for an amazing season.”

On the girls side, Saginaw was represented by Cameron McDaniel and Audrey Little. McDaniel competed in the all-around for her second consecutive state appearance, while Little made her state debut and delivered strong routines on beam.

“The Saginaw girls gymnastics team had a season defined by new faces, personal bests and consistent growth,” said coach Bethany Valenga. “The foundation is set, and we’re building toward something special next year.”

Additional competitors included Andres Carresquillo-Baez, Alexander Peeni and Brian Tellef, each of whom competed in all events.
